Here’s a quick DIY project you can do with the kids over the Christmas break. These are great little gifts for Moms, Grandmas and your kids BFFs. I’ve included patterns below for you to cut out. You can get everything you need from the hardware store and the dollar store. Here are the directions and supplies you will need:
SUPPLIES
Flat washers
Ribbon or cord
Paper (wrapping paper, cardstock, printer, etc. Any will work!)
Glue
Clear nail polish, clear sealer spray or Dimensional Magic by Mod Podge
Fingernail file
INSTRUCTIONS
Step 1:
Trace the washer over the paper of your choice and cut out. You will want one for each side.
Step 2:
Dampen the paper on the back if it is thick paper. Glue the washer with permanent glue and press on the paper. Push your finger through the center so the hole is covered. Trim the center so the paper is flushed to the metal. You can use a fingernail file to rough up the edges so you get a clean edge. Allow the one side to dry for an hour.
Step 3:
Color the paper with nail polish, permanent markers, glitter, etc. Allow to dry for a few minutes.
Step 4:
Seal the paper with clear nail polish, Dimensional Magic by Mod Podge or clear varnish spray. I chose DM because it gives a domed “lifesaver” look and seals the image very well. If you use DM, pull the bubbles off to the side with a toothpick or pin. Only use a little so it doesn’t spill on to the sides. Allow to dry overnight.
Step 5:
Repeat steps on the other side. Add ribbon or string to wear as a bracelet or necklace. Here are photos of the finished pieces I made. The front and back are different to give versatility.
Here are the patterns I made for you. I can email them to you if you can’t download the full sized version. Text me your email address at 413-512-3714 or email me your request to INFO@FANCYTHATANTIQUES.COM
And, that it! It’s easy peazy lemon squeezy! I have tons of supplies so let me know what you need and I’ll send you a package. I have washers, decorative papers, silk cord, etc. *This service is free to Mass Appeal viewers in Massachusetts. Otherwise, it’s just a few dollars to cover my cost of the supplies.
I hope you all have a great holiday. I will be back on Mass Appeal January 8th then every other Friday. Check our facebook page for updates.
Happy Hanu-Kwanza-Mas!
