Greetings neighbors! This week on Mass Appeal I will be showing you how to make these punky pieces of jewelry with items you can buy from your local hardware store. Heavy metal jewelry is all the rage right now. These are cheap and easy to make. You can easily make a necklace and bracelet in less than an hour. In this instance, these are not my ideas. I just made them my own. The videos I used are HERE for more information. As usual, if you need any clasps or findings, just text me at the studio: 413-512-3714 or email me at: info@fancythatantiques.com and I’ll be happy to send you whatever you need. This is free of charge for Mass Appeal viewers and Massachusetts residents. For the rest of the country, it’s only a few dollars. 🙂
Here’s what you will need:
SUPPLIES for the WASHER NECKLACE
Flat metal washers
Flat Ribbon
*Clasps are optional
INSTRUCTIONS
STEP 1
STEP 2
STEP 3
Then you can just knot the ends or add a clasp.
*Optional decorating ideas*
You can paint the washers with nail polish or alcohol inks. I used alcohol inks on this necklace. I just connected the washers with spring rings to make this one. I can do another video for you if you want to learn how to make this one.
SUPPLIES for the HEXNUTS NECKLACE
Hextnuts (3 sizes for this look)
Paracord
*Clasps are optional
INSTRUCTIONS
STEP 1
Start by cutting 3 pieces of paracord and use a lighter to seal the ends. Cut one piece about 3 inches longer so you can loop the ends. Braid the cord and count how many you have so both sides match. You can measure it on your wrist as you go.
STEP 2
Thread the first hexnut on the OUTSIDE of the braid. Each hexnut will be threaded on the outside and then braided in.
STEP 3
Thread on the next hexnut on the other side as shown.
STEP 4
Continue braiding the hexnuts on the outside.
You can burn the ends to seal them and then add a clasp or you can just tie a bow. Here is a video on how to do a sliding knot if you are interested.
*Optional Decorations*
You can spray paint the hexnuts. You can also paint them with alcohol inks or nail polish. Please remember to spray seal them with clear coat if you paint them.

These are easy peasy lemon squeezy! My daughter loved these! My Mass Appeal videos are for us busy Moms who want to make something fun with the kids in less than an hour for under $20 dollars. You CAN make artist grade jewelry with these techniques if you want to.
In this pandemic, my daughter and I have been crafting up a storm! As you know, the less TV the better for the young minds right? Since we have to stay home so we don’t get sick, we might as well get crafty! Someday, we will look back on this and be happy we had this time with our families.
Let me know if you need anything and tell me what jewelry craft you’d like to see on the show.
I’ll see you on the 17th for round 2! We will be making BFF and Families are Forever necklaces with the large washers.
