    DIY Recycled Paper Bib Necklace

Happy Fall neighbors! Today on Mass Appeal I will show you how to make a metallic leather looking bib necklace out of toilet paper rolls. It’s super quick and easy! The whole project takes about an hour minus the glue drying time. Here’s what you will need:

    SUPPLIES

    White glue

    2 toilet paper rolls

    Toothpicks

    Hot glue gun

    Metallic acrylic paint

    Jewelry wire, cord or string

    Broken chain necklace

    Plastic cup

    Beads (optional)

As always, if you need any accent beads, chains or findings and you are a Mass Appeal viewer, just call or text me and I’ll send you what you need free of charge. Here’s the studio # 413-512-3714

    Ok, let’s do this!

    STEP 1

Use a ruler and draw even lines on one side of the roll. You can squish the roll flat for this.

    STEP 2

Paint on white school glue on the inside and outside of the paper roll. You will need 3 coats to produce the leather texture. Paint in thin, even coats with an up and down motion.Allow it to dry for a few hours between each coat.

    STEP 3

Cut the roll in the sections you drew.

    STEP 4

Insert a toothpick at the top and hot glue from under the toothpick to the bottom of the section. Squeeze and make sure it dries flat. Do this will all the sections. *If you want to shape and cut the sections, you need to do it now before you paint them. Here’s an example:

    STEP 5

Choose 2-3 colors of metallic paint. Squiggle them onto the section and dab with a sponge or a brush. You can choose an uneven globby texture or a smooth texture. Each section can be slightly different in color and pattern. Hang the toothpick inside a plastic cup or a glass for a few hours.

    STEP 6

Layout the sections to see how you want the necklace to lay.

    STEP 7

Take jewelry wire, small chain or cord and thread it through the sections. I used copper wire with gold beads in between to give it a little more pop.

    STEP 8

To finish the necklace, you can attach a broken necklace chain to the ends for a modern look.

If you want a more tribal look, you can use leather or cord for the whole thing, which is much easier.

And that’s it! Easy peasy lemon squeezy! Again, let me know if you need any findings. I’m happy to share. I have rooms full of this stuff so let me know what you need. Send me your pics if you make the project so we can post them here for other Mass Appeal viewers to see. Thanks for watching my fellow crafty divas. See you again the week after next on friday. Check my schedule HERE on our FB page. The holidays are coming so we will be making some fun gifts.
