DIY Bib Necklaces From Recycled Broken Jewelry

Learn how to create fantastic necklaces with old broken clip earrings and brooches.

    Greetings neighbors!

Have I got a great DIY for you! We all have old junk jewelry that’s broken or just out of style. For example, those clip on earrings you love, but pinch your ears so they sit in your jewelry box. This is a great way to update the jewelry you have and use the broken bits too! Missing stones and tarnished metal won’t matter for this craft because the finished piece is meant to look shabby chic! It doesn’t matter what jewelry you use because we are making a cluster, so use what you have. You can get bags of jewelry cheap at the goodwill or any second hand store if you don’t have any. There are links at the bottom of the page for more resources. Here’s what you’ll need:

    Supplies

    Clip on earrings

    Broken rhinestone necklaces

    Old beads

    Chain necklace

Jewelry findings such as clasps OR ribbon/lace/cord

E6000 glue (this is the only kind of glue that works and stays put!)

    Decorative scrap paper or fabric

    Cardboard

    Scissors

    Pliers

White school glue or glue stick

    Instructions

Start by cutting out one of the bib patterns I’ve made for you in the download files below.
Cut 2 from paper and one from cardboard. For the third layer, Trace a line a little larger than the pattern and cut small lines around the outside.
Glue the cardboard to the larger copy, folding the tabs in and gluing as you go.
Once you have the tabs glued down, glue a paper layer over the top to cover the cardboard.
Use your pliers or scissors to twist and remove the backs of the earrings or bracelet links.
You can arrange the jewelry the way you want it before you glue it.
Put a plastic bag under your necklace. Use the E6000 to glue the jewelry on the bib.
Allow it to dry over night.
Poke a hole in the top of both sides with a pin.
    Push a spring ring through.
You can use broken necklaces to connect the bib.
You can also glue ribbon to the ends for a different look.
Here are 3 different styles you can make. I used the findings from the broken necklaces so I didn’t buy anything.

This is an easy project. You can make a necklace in the time it takes to watch a movie! Here are the templates for the bib, some links for jewelry findings and broken jewelry lots.
