DIY Zipper Jewelry

Greetings neighbors! Today we will be repurposing zippers and broken jewelry to create fashion jewelry. This is a fun project that takes less than 30 minutes. The total cost is less than $10 of you bought everything needed. I say, grab an old pair of jeans and some broken jewelry, that way you don’t need to buy anything. As always, I bought enough zippers, clasps and charms for about 50 people, so let me know if you need anything. The info is at the bottom of the page. Here’s what you will need for this project:

SUPPLIES

7″ Zipper (bracelet)

(2) Long zippers (medallion pendant)

(2) Long zippers (medallion earrings)

Hot glue and glue gun

Clasps

Beads and charms

Pliers (optional for attaching charms)

Lighter

Scissors

Wax Paper

NECKLACE EARRINGS SET INSTRUCTIONS

  • Cut zipper close to the edge.
  • Take a lighter and quickly seal the edges.
  • Cut the ends off.
  • Roll the zipper into a coil.
  • Put a small amount of glue on wax paper.
  • Continue to wrap the zipper around the coil, adding glue to the outside.
  • Add the next strip to make larger, glue around the edge as you go.
  • Once the medallion is dry, trace a piece of felt or fabric and glue on the back.
  • Glue on jewelry findings to the back side.
  • You can add rhinestones, paint, etc for a finishing touch!

CHARM BRACELET INSTRUCTIONS

  • Cut zipper close to the edge.
  • Cut the end with a tab so you can attach findings.
  • Seal edges with a lighter. It will melt the edge so it doesn’t fray.
  • Pierce the end with a pin, and light underneath with a lighter to seal.
  • Push 2 spring rings through the holes.
  • Attach more spring rings and a clasp to the end and the zipper pull.
  • Attach charms to the spring rings.
  • Finished example.
  • Each bracelet has different charms and pendants.
  • The necklace was made the same way.
  • The bangles are made by just gluing zippers on with E6000 glue.

And that’s it! This is a fun craft the young girls really like. These segments are made to be simple so you can make something in about an hour. For more complex projects, watch the playlist below. You will find a lot of great ideas for zipper jewelry. Let me know if you have any questions or need any findings. I have rooms of this stuff so I don’t mind sending you a little kit. This is free for Mass Appeal viewers. Everyone outside of Massachusetts can pay $6.45 for shipping. The findings are free. Here’s my studio # if you need help: 413-512-3714. I will see you again on September 3rd for another fun DIY project. If you have any ideas of DIY jewelry you’d like me to feature on the show, let me know. Have a great month and I will see you again soon!

Happy crafting!
