    DIY Tassel Jewelry

This Friday on Mass Appeal, I will show you how to jazz up your jewelry with tassels. As usual, we can thank the DIY Divas in India for this craft! I just used the techniques to update the costume jewelry we had. FYI, this is what I do with the jewelry I buy from our neighbors here in New England. Here’s a fun way to update those old clip on earrings, a broken bib necklace or a gold chain.

All you need is thread, embroidery floss or yarn and a few findings. I suggest using 2-3 colors to give the thread a professional ombre look. Gold and silver thread are also nice. This is so easy! Let me know how you like it.

    SUPPLIES

3 Colors of thread or embroidery floss

    Jump rings

    Clip Earrings or pierced

    Scissors

    Cardboard

    Step 1

Cut the cardboard to a little longer than the length you want for your tassel.

    Step 2

Wrap the thread around the cardboard, counting each layer so the tassels will match. I would say 100 times is good for earrings and 200 is good for a pendant.

    Step 3

Find the center and tie and knot in the middle with thread. This is just a marker and will not matter in the design. Cut in the back down the middle.

    Step 4

Fold the thread in half and then knot it at the top a few times.

    Step 5

Fold the thread in half again for a smaller chubbier tassel. Wrap thread around the top about 6 times, then tie and knot it in the back.

    Step 6

Add jump ring or pinch bail

    Step 7

Cut the bottom with sharp scissors

Here are the findings I used in these earrings:
